THE HUB MODEL
Abstract
The HUB model is a unique, multidimensional, multicultural, universal conceptual model that consists of the comprehensive synthesis of five dimensions and elements of person and five dimensions and elements of environment. The model is process oriented, and enables collaboration within and among shared dimensions that address quality, accessible and affordable health care and that provide a systems approach to delivery of services.
The driving force behind the Holistic Urban Behavioral (HUB) health model © was a sincere, expressed concern, that health care become a right for all, regardless of race, ethnic origin, religion, class, age or ability to pay. The concept for this vision is based on the belief that universally, all human outcomes result from behaviors rooted in belief systems, knowledge and experience (nature versus nurture); whether conscious or unconscious. A broad career in nursing and life experiences, have afforded the author the vast knowledge base necessary to understand and develop the vision.
The (HUB) health model utilizes the meta-paradigms of nursing: person/family, environment, nurse, and health and focuses on the inter-relatedness of dimensions using the nursing process; Assessment, Planning, Intervention and Evaluation. In the HUB health model, nurse or manager and health (the construct) are viewed as a synergistic dimension that holds the key to optimum outcomes (wellness or balance). Thus HUB is administrative in concept and design.
The HUB model is a revolutionary approach to change for the Twenty-first century, with concepts that apply to all areas of health, education, business or any area in which dimensions of person/family and environment exists. The educator (teacher or principal), manager or administrator becomes the catalyst within the HUB and provides the key to assisting toward optimum outcomes (learning, job satisfaction/productivity and balance).
The Holistic Universal Behavioral (HUB), model is essential for a comprehensive, holistic approach to all types of care and services that may some day help to solve many of the world’s personal, social, political, economical, ecological, and ethical dilemmas.
Frame work for HUB
The framework for the model uses meta-paradigms and includes health promotion, prevention, and protection through empowering individual, group and community accountability as the strategies for change. This framework is the key to providing opportunity for balance in dimensions of person/family and environment with the goal of optimum health.
It is this writer's belief that focusing on balance as the impetus for change creates a real sense of social and personal well-being.
In response to national health care agendas, the model promotes collaborative partnerships through shared dimensions, on the parts of the federal government, state, local and private industries as well as communities, philanthropies, institutions of higher learning, concerned citizens and advocates, as well as special interest groups (HUB health Model © 1996)
